A Poet’s Disclaimer

2

A

P O E T ‘S

D I S C L A I M E R

It’s much fun – don’t you know it

when you purpose as the poet

to show the colors of the sun

your love in rhyme when verse ’tis sung.

to sing of sun

to sing of sea

to sing the praise of love for thee

to sing of rain

to sign of fame

to sing of love’s multiplicities of pain

to sing of trees

to sing of bark

to say does you heart at all here hark?

to sing of leaves

to sing of branch

to sing of

of birds

of bees

(of naughty little deeds)

Yes.

It is so very much

So much fun –

Dear friend –

don’t you know it

when you purpose as the poet

to show the colors of the sun

your love in rhyme when verse ’tis sung.

Merry Christmas Damn it!

7

M E R R Y   C H R I S T M A S   D A M N  I T

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas, Damn it

All this so called Christmas cheer

please up your butt do cram it

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas, Damn it

I’m tired of all these greedy games

these stupid folks do play

For if you see the have-nots this time of year

there’s shurely Hell to Pay

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas, Damn it

And when you get behind the wheel

of that SUV you’re drivin’

remember that somewhere out there

there’s a child that’s been a cryin’

as santa don’t come round

this here part a’ da hood

though if he did – but anywhere

then there you’d think he would

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas, Damn it

I sing the praises of what’s forgotten

not what you’ve got right here

Christmas is no fun when you’ve hit rock bottom

and no food the real fear

This commercializing can all be sent back

sent right back to hell

And if you ask the man up stairs

I’m sure that’s what he’d tell

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas,

Merry Christmas, Damn it

Jill’s Poem No. 1

9

J I L L ‘ S    P O E M    N o .    1

> A clutter of lines from that movie,

represent a life less ordinary

(or so they say)

> mixed with Simpsons lines and worry

(remembering a friend named Cory)

>about the kids are things

that give your life its wings,

> keeping me from remembering to pay bills,

in a war of time, purpose and wills

> the important things in life.

Should never cause such strife

>I have a strange memory and priority list,

I’ve walked long enough to get the gist

> remember these lines:

in these certain times

> “Say baby, can I be your slave?

Is that a question that you raise?

>I’ve got to admit girl,

worth your weight in pearl

> you’re looking good girl,

as flowers in spring unfurl

> and I’m digging you like a grave.

your touch, I need, I crave.

Patience

12

P A T I E N C E

As long as your patience with me does persist,

these temptations I shall not fully resist

walk with, and no purpose to throw me away –

As long as you don’t,

it’s a bring shiny day

and as long as ever you can call me ever your friend,

until such a time as this story does end.

Do You Remember Love?

10

D O   Y O U   R E M E M B E R   L O V E

Do you remember love?

before it beat your green eyes black and blue

made a blank shell of what was once the girl in you

Do you remember love?

Do you remember love?

Before you became just another piece of tail?

screwed and left before a morning’s Wail

Do you remember love?

Do you remember love

before you began to hate us men

rarely call or lean on them

Do you remember love?

Do you remember love

before you became so outrageously pretty

you attracted every idiot in the city

Do you remember love?

Do you remember love

I do

I remember love

Can you remember me?

Through clouded eyes can you still see

I remember love

I remember love

what it felt like to caress

with out purpose to undress

I remember love

I remember love

The taste of your mouth – wetness of kiss

God how long has it been since this

I remember love

I remember love

holding your body motionless in time

trying so desperate to make you mine

I remember love

I remember love

Girl I want to give you all

more than writing on a bathroom stall

I remember love

I remember love

your body I want to protect

not use selfishly nor neglect

I remember love

I remember love

Your mind I want to ravish

Thoughts of you will never vanish

I remember love

I remember love

You soul I must engage

make more then any woman of this age

I remember love

I remember love

These things no offense can be taken

When truth does finally awaken

I remember love

I remember love

Saving my body only for you

no one else could ever do

I remember love

I remember love

enduring the practice: marking time

Before you let me drink your wine

I remember love

Santa Drove a Nissan

6

S A N T A    D R O V E   A    N I S S A N

Santa drove a nissan

I know – but mom it’s true

for in the back of her car

there were presents not a few

Someone did think of me

someone thought a lot

you should see the cool new toy

from santa that I got

I thought it would be a sad day

no presents would I get

and all I could do is cry and worry

all I could do is fret

But santa pulled up in a nissan!

and handed me a gift

I guess the sleigh was just too slow

a car is much more swift

Santa drove a nissan

I know – but mom it’s true

Santa – where ever you are tonight

we so do much love you!

H A P P Y

B I R T H D A Y

H is for happy –  times, past and future more.

A is for apples, that aren’t rotten to the core.

P is for plentiful, this blessing upon you be:

P is for Pleasure –  in its touch you’ll always be.

Y is for years that will pass this way but once,

B is for brains as you’ve never been a dunce!

I is for interesting – what stories you could tell

R is for raising, like the times that you’ve raised hell!

T is for travesty, that which time it does to beauty,

H is for hard work, as you’ve surely done your duty.

D is for delirious as you surely think this song

A is for astounding as we know you do no wrong (cuz)

Y is for yesterdays as you sing this birthday song.

Deny You In The Morning

11

D E N Y

Y O U

I N

T H E

M O R N I N G

little girl

in a grownup world

Walk with me

Taste me

I’m not another bastard

here to use you in the night

deny you in the morning

But what’s the point of saying things

that I have whispered

to the stars

or hills

and to you

Oh, Yeah, you’re used to guys and our cheap thrills

like I said

not here to use you in the night

deny you in the morning

I want to love you in the light

make you feel all right

not a feeling

but emotion

a simple fling would never do

for you

God; sweet Jupiter swings her motion

as I drink the potion

of your gaze

I taste

I seek

but I’ve got promises to keep

and miles to go before I sleep

as old man frost once said…

Did someone kick you in the head

are you freakin’?

Walk with me

Taste me

I’m not another bastard

here to use you in the night

deny you in the morning

But what is that to say anything

you ignore all the warning

What’s the matter little girl

Conceited stud take your breath away?

lead you astray

Fists of babylon

beat the drums

of a march to hell and back

What do you say

when they take your breath away

I,

I can put it back

If you’d get off the crack

they give you

little girl.

Show you you ain’t been breathin’ right

in the passion of the night

little girl –

in a grownup world

Walk with me

Taste me

I’m not another bastard

here to use you in the night

deny you –

in the morning

Because You Are So Broken

14

B E C A U S E    Y O U   A R E   S O    B R O K E N

You joke around about being a fool,

or a master of ridiculous things

and say that you are of no consequence

and I contend –

You say that what you do makes no difference

and moves no mountains

that are to be perceived

and I contend –

You tell me that you do not know

how to talk to or hear from God

and service remains a mystery to you

and I contend –

that you are more than you will ever see

will ever hope to ever be

will ever grasp

will ever sew

will ever think

will ever grow

or ever know

because you are so broken
